Hypnotic chants rub against fluttering bass lines, rumpling drums cling to the hard mechanics of the drum machine, a dissonant flute prances over a gleefully snapping clap. DJ Raph, musician and producer from Nairobi, scours ethnographic archives for samples and embeds them in finely calibrated electronics. He calls his grooves sacred, because the samples from which they feed have not been not straightened in the Techno mill. He allows them space and lets the beat follow their syncope and their tumbling. This is music to expand your dance awareness.
