Can you be sad when dancing? Definitely when listening to the dark synth-pop music of Boy Harsher. The duo from Massachusetts wanted to stop once before. Today, Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller simply embed the trauma into the sound. Because “Careful”, their current album, has emerged carrying some heavy weights: therein Jae Matthews processes the dementia disease of her mother, the loss of her father and her own attachment fears. So, she sings and whispers to Muller’s elastic acid beats about death and loneliness, and we dance to a minimal wave that tugs at the heart.
